A Tribute to Sarah

Sarah

RIP

This blog post is about a very special Yellow Lab name Sarah.  From the day we adopted her from our breeder on June 21, 2015, Sarah traveled with us on every camping trip.  Prior to adopting her she had 3 litters and 18 puppies.  She made friends wherever we went.  Sarah would rollover on her back and wait for me to notice.  She wanted a foot tummy rub.  She loved them.  Last night I gave her last one.  Today started like everyday.  Getting up, feeding her, giving her pieces of banana, and putting her out.  The only thing on our mind was tomorrow mornings surgery to have a Spindle Cell Sarcoma removed from her left side.  I think deep down we thought it was cancerous and hoped the surgery would say different.  At noon today she had a major seizure.  I held her and tried to comfort her. She struggled to stand up and then started wandering around the house.  She was lost.  Attempts to touch her were met with a move in a different direction.  We  struggled to put her collar and leash on.  She didn't want to leave the house. We rushed her to the Vet Hospital.   She stood or sat the whole ride and we could tell she was stressed.  Every time she got in the car or truck she laid down and rarely got up.  They gave her an IV and discussed several options.  We decided that we didn't want her to suffer and at 1:42pm she slipped away peacefully.  We were so looking forward to a successful recovery from surgery and another trip to Galveston Island State Park in a couple of weeks.

Sarah's first camping trip was Mounds State Recreation Area on August 17, 2015.  Sarah went on 38 camping trips with us.  She camped in 32 states and two Canadian Provinces (Ontario and Quebec).  Her favorite places to travel were Texas, 7 trips, Montana 3 trips, Wyoming 3 trips, Colorado 3 trips, Michigan 3 trips, and Maine 2 trips.
