Day 1 – 9/21/17
We departed around 12:30
p.m. and drove to Iowa City, IA where we camped at an Army Corps of Engineering
Campground, one of four on the reservoir. We selected Tailwater East
Campground. We didn’t find an office or
place to pay so we ended up with a free night at a great location. We left a heat spell in Indiana and moved
into the oven with a high of 95. It
cooled off for a good night sleep.
Friendly Backgammon game
Day 2 – 9/22/2017
We got up early and had
an eleven hour drive to our next location, North Platt, NE. We stayed in the city park campground, next
to a small zoo. We found a nice site
close to the Platt River. We drove back
into town and picked up a pizza for dinner, returning to the campground and
dinning along the river.

Day 3-5 – 9/23/2017-9/25/2017
We had a 4-1/2 hour drive
to Estes Park, taking back roads for most of the way.
The Elk were in rutt and buggling could be heard all day and night. It was fun to hear.
Aspenglen Campground
New snow in the Colorado Rockies and wapiti bugling all around you makes for a great trip start! Very nice!
